day 39 - varanasi - 10 nov

moved to another hotel closer to the rive bank ganga yogi lodge went on a horrible quest to find internet connection for my lap top. traffic and exhaust, unable to get a full view of the surroundings. my driver is persistent and he finally found me a place, they didn’t have wireless but the ability to plug in which is just as good, and cheap works out to around 60 cents per hour. after that had a middle eastern meal at the hotel restaurant next door, very good and cheap also, even for a tourist hotel things are cheap, $2 for the food and a fresh squeezed oj for a dollar.

university grounds walking around met two guys (elementary school teachers) spoke with them shared pictures.

monkey temple one got really aggressive with me freaked me a bit, saw the feeding session. couldn’t take cameras in the guard on the way out stopped and talked with me for a bit.

down to river bank in the dark, playing with some timed exposures. shot some photos of the cremations, little girl asking for money or chocolate, i didn’t have anything small to give so started taking their pictures, which they wanted money for, was showing them the results then started swinging them around and twirling them until they had to go.

some local guys saw me taking photos of the burning sight and wanted money. i took there picture time exposed and we talked i gave them about $2 they were trying to get me to give like 20 or 50. they took me up to this lookout where we sat for a while shot some photos of one of the guys who was very flexible (yoga you know) he said he would meet me at 5 am to take me out on a boat. so i headed back to the hotel
