day 37 - delhi - train to varanasi - nov 8

checked out of room, met carl from san diego photographer and photo tour guide in the lobby, got my train ticket and did more photo uploads to flickr, tweaked with the blog site.

had dinner, carl came up an joined me.

first venture out of the hotel down to the rail station which was very close less than half a mile, a bit of a challenge with bag hanging off my side with all the people bikes, vendors , vehicles and animals viewing for position on the streets.

go to the station and found my way to the train car, it’s a sleeper car with 6 bunks that all fold down. i was already ready to bunk down, but the others were not. my bunk was a middle bunk so had to wait for everyone on that side leaning against it were ready to go down. after awhile it was apparent they weren’t going down soon so they suggested i sleep up on the top bunk, i was concerned about the light which was pretty bright and he wouldn’t turn off, to top that off the cooking car uses wood and the smoke was coming in, by this time one of the guys has taken over my bunk, they finally turn the light off, i end up reading until about 4 am when this guy wake up and turn the light back on. so i get up and move everything to the middle bunk above him and finally fall asleep once he stops talking. at 6 am he starts pushing me wanting me to move out from above him so he can have the seat to look out the window, so i ended up back in my original assigned bunk, the lesson here, i guess, i should have held out for my original assigned place.
